Genova Provence

Located in the central “bend” of the coastal strip that is the province of Liguria, Genova is better known as the Italian Riviera

Though rather small, the density is quite high as it is mostly urban.

Celtic tribes settled it as early as 4,500 years ago.  Since then it has been home to a great many travellers.

The namesake capital city of Genoa and, the capital of the Liguria Region, is a prosperous trading port that has been important for centuries as a hub of trading.

Being a city of trade, it has been home to much migration, especially from other parts of Italy in the 19th century.  Genoa city is home to many famous people from history, including the explorers Christopher Columbus and Andrea Doria as well as several popes, Nobel Prize winners and the composer Paganini.

>> La Lanterna of Genoa - you may visit the world’s oldest working lighthouse and climb the narrow stairs for a breathtaking view of the city from the nearly 80-metre tall, two block construction from at least the 16th century.  There is also a museum of lighthouses and seafaring.

>> Mercato Orientale of Genoa - this exotic market is home to curiosities as well as fine produce from the nearby hillsides.
>> National Park of the Cinque Terre - the park was created by the Italian government not only to conserve the natural resources of the area, but also the man-made treasures of the five villages that make up the Cinque Terre.
