Perhaps one of the most emblematic regions in all of
Italy, the south coastal region of Campania is home
to the stunningly picturesque town of Naples and some
of the best food in a country full of good food.
It is said that pizza was invented here, and to this
day, mozzarella cheese is produced in vast quantities.
Naples itself has been a must-see for centuries. Recent
renovations have restored many of the historic neighbourhoods
in the city centre.
Of the five provinces, two are landlocked and mountainous.
On the Tyrrhenian Sea, you’ll find many signs of Greek
influence from the time of Magna Graecia, including
a Sibyl’s cave at Cumae and Greek temples Paestum.
The doomed city of Pompeii is also found nearby, with
Mt. Vesuvius still glowering on the horizon.
The Islands off the Amalfi Coast are legendary for
their beauty, and islands such as Capri continue to
draw visitors to the resorts and spas located there
for centuries.
