Forli-Cesena Province
Tucked away toward the southern most coastal part of
the Emilia-Romagna region, you’ll find the province
of Forli-Cesena with a few hundred thousand citizens
in about 30 mid-sized towns.
Named for the two largest cities in the area, Forli
is actually the capital and slightly larger.
While the province does have a coastline, it is not
very large.
The landscape includes both coastal and mountainous
areas that begin up in the foothills of the Apennines.
The region has is home to the Monte Poggiolo that has
archaeological evidence of human industry over 800,000
years ago. Forli is famous for being destroyed in 88BC
(100 years after its founding) by the wars between Marious
and Sulla. The capital is connected to Rome via Via
Aemilia.
The first public library in the world can be found
today in the sister city of Cesena.
Agriculture remains a very important part of the local
economy, with plants and ranching both being important.
