Modena Province
Located just west of the major urban centre of Bologna,
you’ll find the province of Modena, as one of the nine
provinces of Emilia-Romagna.
This province is landlocked and is primarily agricultural,
though there are foothills and some minor Apennine peaks
in the area.
It is, perhaps best known as the province that is home
to a great many auto manufacturers including Bugatti,
Lamborghini and Maserati, as well as a branch of the
Ferrari Company.
The capital city, Modena, is much larger than the rest
of the 47 towns of the region, with nearly 200,000 people.
Located on the south side of the Po Valley, the city
is actually found between two tributaries and is quite
ancient.
Originally of Etruscan origin, the area has been settled
for thousands of years.
For nearly 1000 years, there has been a University
in Modena that continues to teach law and medicine.
The city is also home to the famous signer Luciano Pavarotti.
