Gardone Riviera
Gardone Riviera is a small town located on the banks of Lake Garda, the largest
lake in Italy.
It is a very ancient city, though it became an important point of reference
only during the middle ages, when the imposing Rocca, or Castle, was constructed.
Throughout its history, unfortunately, the city has been witness to conflicts
between the various Italian city-states and was actually directly involved in
many of those conflicts.
Its political and social situation improved only after Italy was unified.
After the unification, actually, Gardone Riviera dedicated itself wholeheartedly
to developing its economy, focusing heavily on tourist activities. Indeed, it
began creating a number of hotels and other types of accommodation structures,
as well as renovating its historical center.
Today, the city that was once home to the famous Italian author, Gabriele D'Annunzio,
is one of the most important and visited spots on Lake Garda.
Tourists love visiting its historical center, its numerous villas and its characteristic
lake-front area.
