Macerata Province
This province is centrally located in the Marche Region
on the central Adriatic coast. Unlike many of the Marche
provinces, the capital city, Macerata, is located inland,
about halfway between the sea and the Apennine Mountians.
As such, the nearby area is mountainous while the city
itself is located between the Chienti and Potenza rivers.
There is agriculture in the Macerata, mostly orchards
and vineyards.
The city of Macerata was founded as a city of learning
a thousand years ago. It remains a draw to students
worldwide. The area also has a prominent art school,
so there are a great many galleries and museums in town
to choose from.
Nearby Recanati is known as a city of poetry as well
as a centre of the renaissance-era Italian Jewish population.
The area around Tolentino (on the coast) has been constantly
inhabited since Paleolithic times, with artefacts dating
back to the 8th century BC
