Bari Province
This coastal province in the centre of Italy’s “boot
region” of Puglia (also called Apulia in English) is
known for its long beaches on the Adriatic Sea as well
as its sun-drenched countryside.
The port town of Brindisi is a well-known stopping
point for those visiting the ancient trulli structures
that date back thousands of years.
Bari province is quite hot in the summer, though the
beach season extends late here, for thousands of off-season
tourists.
The capital city of Bari is an industrial city that
also serves as the capital of the region, and is a somewhat
large city, with nearly a million residents in the greater
metropolitan area. The northern part of the city boasts
many notable buildings that date back to ancient Rome
(as well as many nightclubs), though the seaside section
of town has been more recently developed. Many of the
locals retreat to the proliferation of shops in the
city’s central district to escape the summer heat when
not at the beaches.
