Cagliari Province
This province occupies the south-eastern corner of
the island of Sardinia, also known as the Sardegna Region.
Cagliari is home to several ports and productive agricultural
areas on the two large plains, inland.
The coastal areas have particularly nice beaches and
the area has been a tourist haven as well as an important
colony for nearly 3,000 years.
Today, the area is known for its seafood dishes and
breads.
Many towns in the area have native populations of flamingos,
further adding to the idyllic charm of the province.
The largest and namesake capital city, Cagliari, is
an important Ferry port for the Italian mainland and
Sicily. It is also where most people arrive on the island.
Cagliari is a mid-sized city with over 150,000 residents.
You’ll find a nearly intact defensive wall from the
13th century surrounding the old part of the city, or
Castello.
The nearby city of Quartu Sant'Elena is notable as
the stopping off point for the island of St. Helena.
