Taormina
Taormina, in Sicily, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Italy.
It is found about 200 meters above sea level and its particular location is
such that the town is a veritable natural terrace enriched by beautiful views
in which the imposing volcano, Mount Etna, forms a majestic backdrop.
Tourist activity remains vibrant essentially the entire year here, thanks to
the town's cultural and natural beauty, but also thanks to the very well organized
structures aimed at making a tourist's stay as pleasant as possible.
For most of its history, the city has been the preferred destination for the
rich and famous, artists, and other such people. The city was founded by the
Greeks and still retains some of the constructions built during its early history.
The most impressive, well known, and visited of these constructions is the
ancient Greek Theater, which still hosts concerts and events to this day. You
can also visit the ancient gates of the city, and churches and fountains that
date to later times.
A simple walk along the narrow cobblestone streets of the enchanting town will
transport you back in time and the views overlooking the Ionian Sea will leave
you breathless.
