Guides & Maps on Umbria

Perhaps best known for its food, Umbira is also famous for a quirky and relaxed attitude towards life.

The region is located right in the centre of the country and, is rare in that it is completely landlocked within the borders of Italy.

Both provinces that make up the region are quite mountainous, with a rather low population density.

The people of Umbira can be counted upon to support the left-leaning politicians and typically vote with the surrounding regions.

Not to be confused with the ancient Roman region of Umbria the distinction is often made between the two.

While agriculture has traditionally been the staple of the economy, manufacturing became important in the 20th century and continues to be a major sector in the economy, such as the Chocolate industry.

The Universities of Perugia are a very common draw for young people as are the medieval themed-celebrations and ceramics trade which draws older folks.
