Treviso Province
This completely landlocked province in the Venetian
province of Veneto (also called Venezia) is in the north-eastern
part Italy is perhaps best known for being home to the
airports that many Europeans use to access the very
popular, and sometimes rather expensive, tourist destination
of Venice.
Much of the province is a fertile plain that has traditionally
been used for agriculture, though as Venice expands,
many of the rural villages have swelled as a result
of urban growth.
Treviso is the capital city of the province and is
also the largest, with over 80,000 residents. This small
city, like many others in the area, is generally thought
of as being part of the larger Padua/Venice metropolitan
area, though it has a very long history of its own.
Like the more famous Venice, Treviso city also has
canals, though these were built to supply the city with
drinking water from the nearby river rather than as
a means of conveyance and swamp drainage. Today, the
city is home to the worldwide Benetton clothing empire
as well as several other large industrial companies.
