Verona Province
This interior and western-most province of the Venezia
( Veneto) region, is home to some of the best preserved
Roman architecture in Eastern Italy as well as fertile
and rolling farm land.
The agricultural produce of the province is of world
renown as are its cheeses.
The Adige River flows through the expansive plain that
covers over half the province and feeds the canals that
make it possible to produce rice and annual crops such
as melons and strawberries.
To the north of Verona Province are the foothills of
the Alps that draw skiers and hikers alike.
The city of Verona is well known in literature as the
setting of Romeo and Juliet, though Shakespearian scholars
will tell you that this was a latter addition to the
play. The historic centre of town is full of Roman architecture
that has been in constant use (and modification) for
over 2,000 years. Once a favourite vacation spot of
Julius Caesar, Verona was recently awarded UNESCO World
Heritage Site status.
