Abano Terme
Within its name, the town of Abano Terme contains the reason for its attraction
on the part of tourists. Indeed, the name "terme" means "spa" and Abano has
been known as a place for thermal healing since as far back as the 6th century
BC.
Its precious radioactive waters, full of chlorides, sodium and bromide, derive
from the Alps and are helpful in the treatment of a variety of health conditions.
Even if all you're looking for is some healthy relaxation and peace, Abano Terme
is the place to go.
Though the majority of tourists visit Abano Terme for its thermal establishments,
there are a number of historical sites to check out for those interested in
doing some sightseeing.
For example, the historical center is home to the Duomo, or Cathedral, dedicated
to San Lorenzo, which houses various precious works of art.
There are also a number of sumptuous villas, many from the 16th century, constructed
in Venetian style and many of which contain important frescoes. Take a look
at the frescoes in the Sanctuary of the Beata Vergine della Salute.
And don't forget to visit the Montirone Art Gallery, the San Daniele Monastery
and the Vigodarzere Gottardo Villa.
